Thanks Ernie [Murphy] for kind remembrance - funny, I do'nt feel a day older than 71.!! have'nt changed a bit, but you should see how I've altered.! Roach Sr. is going to make comedy shorts for M.G.M. in England.!!-
          Now hold on - BEN SHIPMAN WAS MARRIED RECENTLY.!! (Miss Virden). Think I told you I had a hemorrhage in my left eye few weeks ago, Dr. says no reading & writing for a while, hence my being brief.

Dear Bob & Marie [Hatfield]:
          Thanks for the nice B'Day greeting card - appreciate the kind remembrance.
          Note you're having a heat wave, its pretty rough down this way too, altho' Santa Monica is the coolest spot. The hotel management were kind enough to have the windows cleaned last week, so I discovered my eye was OK - I can see swell now.!! kidding aside there is no improvement in my vision, Dr. says it may get a little better in time but will never fully recover. Anyway am not too distressed about it, as long as I'm not suffering any pain or great discomfort.

          Wish you all lots of happy Barbeque's.

So sorry to hear of your Mother's illness - tell her to CUT THAT OUT.! (we'll 'ave none o'that in our 'ouse.!!).
          No you did'nt 'Goof' on the birthday card - you were WRITE, with EVERSHARP.!! I celebrated my 71st June 16th. didn't feel a day older (than 96.!!).
          Still no improvement in the eye dept. think from now on I'll keep it in my marble bag.! I'd have more use for it.!

          Note you have ambitions to write another book on the subject of L&H with the idea of delving into our private lives - am sorry, but this I would'nt permit under any circumstances, so I'd suggest you just forget it.
          Interesting to know your Father recorded the Academy Award Show - yes I recd. the Danny Kaye segment that Chuck McCann sent me, it was an excellent recording job, I transferred it to Tape for safety.
