Letter From Benjamin W. Shipman

April 20, 1940

Mr. Hugh C. Huber
Hal Roach Studios, Inc.,
Culver City, California.

My dear Hugh:
I am returning the check that you have sent me on Mr. Laurel’s behalf, your check No. F21163, in the sum of $416.67.
The period to be covered, I understand, is five days instead of one day.
I shall, indeed, appreciate your check to me with a check to make up the correct amount, whichever is most convenient for you.

Sincerely,
B. W. Shipman

Letter From Benjamin W. Shipman

April 30, 1940

Mr. Hugh C. Huber
Hal Roach Studios, Inc.,
Culver City, California.

My dear Hugh:
Thank you for the two checks, aggregating $2083.34, covering the five days in the week ending April 13, 1940, for Mr. Laurel's salary under the contract.
It was also my understanding that, of course, we were to have received a check in the sum of $1500.00 on Saturday, April 20th, and a check for $1500.00 on Saturday, April 27th. Of course, another check will be due this coming Saturday, and I would appreciate that you kindly make those payments right away.
Also, in view of the fact that no instructions so far have been given to the distributor of the pictures, would it not be best to give such instructions in accordance with the changed sharing agreement and, thus, also conclude that part of the transaction?
I shall be very happy, indeed, to hear from you right away.

Sincerely,
B. W. Shipman
