Ben Shipman began his career in the 1920s working for Hal Roach as studio business manager. Choosing sides, Ben eventually began working solely for Laurel and Hardy as their manager and lawyer, negotiating contracts and representing the pair in various court cases, usually involving former wives looking for more money. Speaking of them in 1966, he said, "Such sweet men. But oh, the problems they could get into! Particularly Stan, but Babe too. And most of it was women trouble."   Ben Shipman
